Vincent Preissnitz was not the first man to use water in the cure of disease.
However he was the first man to formulate a complete system of water treatments for the alleviation of disease.
That he made the discovery of the power of water in healing and reached his conclusions independently of all other healers who preceded him there is not the slightest doubt.
Born of hard working country people at Grafenberg, Germany in upper Silesia, he lead the life of the usual country boy. Scarcely less observing than he was industrious, he observed from his vantage point as his flock grazed, a wounded doe, injured by hunters, wade into the calm back flow waters of the turbulent mountain brook. He wondered as the doe limped away and disappeared into the forest. That night he decided there must be a reason for a wounded animal to seek water to lave its wounds. Perhaps instinct was stronger than reason. He would return the next day. He did.
Sure enough, the doe returned to the eddying water at about the same time. It stood silently, without a move, and then after awhile limped to the bank and disappeared in the deep foliage of the forest once more. For two weeks the lad Vincent Preissnitz returned daily to his vantage point and watched. For two weeks the wounded stag returned and bathed its injured leg in the brook. Each day the deer walked better and finally scampered out of the water on the last day to return no more.
Before his very eyes he had seen a badly injured deer healed with cool sparkling brook water. Vincent Preissnitz never forgot that experience.
Some years later Preissnitz was injured severely hauling cord wood. Night stole upon him, as did a heavy snow storm. His team bolted through a gulch. The load slipped and his ribs were crushed.
But while he lay there he had time to reflect on what to do. A doctor was out of the question on a night like that. No help was forthcoming. Somehow he managed to get home.
No, he could not soak his injured ribs in water as the deer had done with its leg. He conceived the idea of wrapping the injured ribs with pieces of his torn shirt soaked in cold water. This relieved him. He continued to apply cold wet wrappings and in due course his ribs were free from pain and healed.
The news of his accomplishment spread. When a neighbor became injured he called for the young man who healed with water. Requests for aid became more frequent and further from home, and his experience grew apace.
He gave the matter of his discovery which had meant so much to himself and others much thought. He tried various applications with varying degrees of success. Empirically by trial and error he evolved a method or system of water treatment that brought help to thousands.
He opened a modest place where people could stay. In a matter of months it became the haven of the sick. His fame spread to every corner of the globe. He treated Prince and pauper alike. The medical big wigs of the day protested and closed his doors. To his patients, called to the center of the square, he said: "be undismayed. If they will not let me use water we shall find a cure in air."
He was persecuted and prosecuted. By trickery and scheming the medical fraternity sought to discredit him. The people who had been healed were evidence against any wrong doing he was accused of. The final gesture was the claim that the water was drugged. The State found he used only pure mountain water.
To end all persecution they decreed that no one should ever molest him. That he be permitted to heal the sick as he had been doing.

Hence forward, leading medical men of Europe sat at his feet to learn his simple practical methods.
Grafenburg, became a shrine for the ill. People traveled to it from all over the world. Some of the best records we have came from the pen of Americans who crossed the ocean to take the "cure."
One of these from an attorney in New York State reflects the simplicity of the man Preissnitz and the equal simplicity of his methods.
Preissnitz never changed modality with which he worked. He changed only the duration of treatments and developed a system to adopt them in accordance with the patient.
It is said he treated thousands yearly and amassed a sizable fortune, which was
foreign to a man of such simple tastes and wants.
So far as is known he left no writings of his own, but he speaks to us through the writings of his disciples, most prominent of whom were Joel Shew, prominent medical physician of the early 19th century, and Rausse, the famed German writer.
Though a number of excellent men took up the propagation of the work, following Shew's passing, none gave it such authority and power as did he.
The work never really died, but rather was absorbed by other systems which followed as the Kneipp and Bilz system and so on, until we find at the turn of the twentieth century an American Hydro-therapy fostered by the genius of the late John Harvey Kellogg of Battle Creek Sanitarium fame, and Dr. Simon Baruch, father of the friend of Presidents, Bernard Baruch who sometime back gave $1,000,000 for the study of Natural methods of healing. Unfortunately this money was placed at the disposal of a medically controlled board, and will be spent under medical supervision.
Nevertheless the water cure or hydropathy or what some are inclined to term hydrotherapy will live on as a monument to the little Shepard lad Vincent Preissnitz who rediscovered the power of water as a healing agent, nearly 200 years ago.
Since Preíssnítz's passing the town of Grafenburg has become a shrine of the basic , Nature Curists. In Grafenburg are preserved memento es of the early days of the Grafenburg water cure where despite persecution and prosecution, the practical visionary Vincent Preissnitz plied his profession and established beyond any question the efficacy of water as a healing agent.
Among the memento es is a letter from someone in America to Vincent Preissnitz bearing simply the address, Europe. So great had his fame grown throughout the civilized world.
To him we owe homage for his great discovery of the efficiency of the universal solvent.
In hovel or palace water, even as air heals and strengthens.

The pioneers of Natural healing were a hardy rugged lot. They were individualists to the core.
There was Preissnitz, the farmer, Schroth the carter, Just the teacher, Kuhne the weaver among others and now we consider the works of Kneipp the Priest.
No man of the profession left a more marked imprint for posterity to ponder than did Father Sebastian Kneipp, who
independently established his own peculiar system o£ water applications.
None of his predecessors was more individual, more rugged or more devout in preaching the gospel of good health.
Kneipp's song of health which heralded his belief is contained in the simple passage:
"All ye waters praise ye the Lord!" And that is what Father Kneipp did in his work. Unselfishly he labored until he was an old man to help suffering humanity He never charged or took a fee. Those numbering into tens of thousands who were helped expressed their gratitude as the spirit moved them and all proceeds went to charity.
To understand the greatness of the man it is necessary that we carry you back to his humble and impoverished parentage.
Sebastian Kneipp was the son of a poor weaver. He was born at Stephansried near Ottobeuren on the seventeenth day of May 1821.
The boy Sebastian early showed signs of eagerness to learn but his parents had not the means to help him. He became a weaver like his father and helped as a good son would until he was 21.
Then the desire to become a priest overpowered him and he left home. From village to village he traveled seeking the aid of priests so as to begin study for the priesthood.
Chaplain Mathias Merkl, of Gronenbach, who was later to become a bishop, became interested in Kneipp after the young man's many fruitless attempts to get help. This patient priest taught Kneipp, Latin and prepared him for High School.
Actual want and long hours of study, caused Kneipp to become rundown and lose strength. He developed consumption, far more a dread condition then than now. Every effort was made to help him. Professor Pezold, of Munich did all possible for him without results.
Kneipp, then in the gymnasium or high school saw his prospects of becoming a priest fast fading away. He was determined to enter the priesthood, but it looked as though death would prevent. He would take matters into his own hands. He sought knowledge on every hand. Nothing seemed to offer any hope, that is, nothing until he came upon a small work, by the first German water Doctor, Dr. Hahn on the curative properties of cold water, which was edited by Dr. Huefland, an old and respected physician. A number of cures by water treatment were recorded in this little volume.
Kneipp was struck with the simplicity of the work. Just the reading of it gave him new hope and courage. He lost no time in putting the instructions into action
His perseverance in applying the measures was rewarded by results. The disease was arrested so he could finally resume his studies for the priesthood and as time went on he grew increasingly better until his health was better than ever before.
So taken was he by his success with water that he recommended the same to others, among the student body. So remarkable were the results that he was lead to continue his recommendations even after he had been elevated to the priesthood.
Keen powers of observation enabled the young student and later priest to make important discoveries. Coupled with his good common sense and practical views he was developing a system of treatments almost without realizing it.
So widespread had his fame become that he was known as the "Priest who heals with water." That jealousies should arise seemed inevitable. He had been warned by the Bishop to confine his ministrations to the soul. But his parish which was composed of many poor farmers often required his attention on the sick, and as he ministered to the spiritual with prayer so he ministered to the physical ills with water.
Opposition became stronger. Finally the Bishop advised Father Kneipp that he was not a physician but a priest and would have to decide to give up one or the other. Father Kneipp understood and accepted the order. He decided to cease ministering to the physical ills of his flock.
While it probably took much thought and prayer to reach this decision, after it was made it likely brought the busy priest some measure of relief, which however was short lived. The conflict in his mind and soul was almost overpowering.
Soon after his decision to forsake helping his parishioners with water, there came a knock on his door of a dark stormy night. Father Kneipp had heard the sound of horses hoofs as the rider drew up. He admitted the man. His face was ghastly white. His wife was lying in childbirth. There was no doctor within miles, "Please would he come." Father Kneipp remembered his vow and told the distracted man his decision. He could not come. The man pleaded for help. Father Kneipp, his soul in conflict between promise and duty reversed himself then and there and said, "vow or no vow I cannot see a fellow being perish if I can help him", and asked the man to lead the way. There was no wagon or carriage. The people were poor. He got on the horse behind the now happy man, and was hurried to the bedside of his wife some miles distant.
He arrived in time to deliver the baby and save the mother. And as he went leisurely back to his home thinking that he had divorced himself from the priesthood he felt some compensation, the great soul satisfaction he had in ministering to the woman and helping a new life into the world.
He sent word to the Bishop of what he had done. Dismissal was not forthcoming, but rather a note that if he could heal the physical ills he was free to go ahead while attending to their spiritual needs.
This was the happiest day in Father Kneipp's life. His fame grew in leaps and bounds and the demands for his services became so great that it was decided to open an institution, which was done at Wörishofen, Germany.
Thousands, yes, tens of thousands of ill people visited Wörishofen and went away well. Physicians from all over the world traveled to learn his system. Many came to scoff but went away chastened and convinced. Water cures according to the Kneipp system sprang up all over Europe.
A young man from Mickelbach was destined to take the message of Kneipp across the Seas. This young man with weak lungs had also traveled to Father Kneipp and came away strong and well.
In 1892 the Kneipp system was officially brought to America by Dr. Benedict Lust, who was personally commissioned to carry the work to this country by Father Kneipp himself. Dr. Lust put the system into operation at his Yunghorn in Butler, N. J. and Tangerine, Florida, where the treatment is still used.
Father Kneipp was looked upon as a "dabbler" by the medical profession of his day, but they hesitated to openly condemn a man so selfless, a man who treated the thousands who visited him for help without charging a fee.
In fact the Central Medical Journal No. 35 of Hamburg 1899, editorialized: "A sense of shame comes upon the physician who, in Wörishofen, hears from dozens of educated people that they have for months consulted in vain professional medical men, who take large fees, with regard to symptoms, which have either been completely removed or greatly alleviated here.
Who ever attentively observes Kneipp's mode of dealing with a patient, will soon perceive that he applied his treatment to the man as a whole, appealing not at first to the intellect, but to the will, which is so much neglected in modern education and also in hygienic matters."
The Kneipp System aims at strengthening the whole organism.

Father Kneipp's theory of disease is a simple one. He believed every disease arises from the blood. Either the blood contains impurities or circulates poorly, was his opinion on the cause of disease.
On this sound basis he proceeded to construct his system of treatment. He directed his applications at the body as a whole, and not at one part of the body, though many of the applications were localized, in order to cause a greater effect on the body as a whole.
Kneipp used only cold water. The colder the better, he believed. In fact in Winter he would add snow to the water. Treatments were of short duration. The object was to obtain a quick reaction. Most treatments as douches, etc., were from one half minute to three minutes. In this he was at variance with his predecessor Preissnitz. Kneipp also preferred patients to take exercise before water application.
In fact he favored a well heated body even to the point of perspiration for the best reaction to the cold water.
He successfully treated the dread small pox and typhus, by repeated washings in cold water. This success was squalled in all feverish conditions. Numerous were the cases where he restored sight, hearing and the voice, by regulating the treatment to restore defective circulation. He believed these conditions as due to chronic congestion.
Father Kneipp was a born healer. He was able to discern the individuals problems and direct treatment accordingly. He frowned upon orthodox diagnosis. He was satisfied to see the patient, observe his expression and carriage and then prescribe.
While the Kneipp system is mostly thought of as a Water Cure system, it should be remembered that Father Kneipp, long acquainted with the herbs of the Country worked out a complete system of herbalism, For long his products were considered the best on the market. It was difficult for the medics to tolerate the idea of such a pharmacoepia but the years have proved that the simple remedies of Kneipp were based on Natural principles.
With regard to food Kneipp was quite decided. He eschewed alcoholic drinks and tobacco as useless and recommended that no coffee be used. He substituted a cereal coffee. Wholegrain or meal bread was, the rule, and. .an ample supply of vegetables o all kinds was recommended.
Singularly the venerable priest was one of the first pioneers to advocate reforms in dress.
He believed hat the feet should be well aired In addition to recommending walling in the dew, or water or snow, he devised an open sandal for wear, which all followers of the Cure wore.
He was against the use of wool undergarments and socks, then in vogue. He devised, a porous knitted linen fabric from which under garments were manufactured and socks were made of similar material.
Even the fabric used in packs were of this material, Wool was taboo. Factories in nearby cities manufactured the products which were sold throughout the world.
Father Kneipp's system was not merely a system of healing the ailing body and restoring it to health, but it was a system of simple wholesome living.
His views were finally set down in the printed page after a long useful life of service in healing. "My Water Cure," now out of print is a masterpiece of simplicity its revelation of invaluable advice to the ailing.
This work is Father Kneipp's great contribution to therapeutic literature.
Few places in this Country use the Kneipp Cure, though Dr. Lust has fulfilled his commission to spread its value throughout the land.
It is too simple to please people.

Most celebrated physician of antiquity; known as the "Father of Modern Medicine"; formulated the Hippocratic Oath and admonished: "Let Foods Be Your j Medicine And Your Medicine Your Food."
Priessnitz, Vincenz (1799-1851)
Founder, first water cure system; discoveries resulted from keen observation of animals in their natural surroundings; applied same measures to own injuries with success, then to those of neighbors. At age of 26, built and established first water cure at Graefenberg in Austrian Silesia; success was meteoric; work became so well known throughout world that a letter from an inquirer in United States reached him bearing the simple address, "Vincent Priessnitz, Europe", and reposes in the Museum at Graefenberg.
Rickli, Arnold (Born Feb. 13, 1823 - Died 1926)
Born at Veldes-Krainola, Austria. Founder of the light and air cure, which he called the Atmospheric Cure. In 1848 established first institution for light and air cure at Veldes-Krainola. He said, "Water is good, and Air is better, but Light is best of all."

Outstanding exponent of therapy of fasting.

Racked in body, restored by Kneipp Wassuer Kur; commissioned by Father Sebastian Kneipp in 1892 to bring his Kneipp Cure to America; saw great value of all natural methods and visited institutions of all known cures and finally correlated all to form Naturopathy in 1892, to which he contributed his original ideas as well: Founded the American Naturopathic Association in 1896; Founded the American School of Naturopathy. American School of Chiropracty, "Naturopath and Herald of Health", also Nature's path magazine in 1925.

Christian, Eugene, D. F. S.
America's first Food Scientist and paved the way for men like Hay, Jackson, etc. Founder of the Corrective Eating Society of America, Inc.

Lee, Elmer, M D. (1855 – 1945)
An exponent of Nature Cute by practical experience; a tireless investigator; for many years editor of the Health Culture magazine, he was one of the physicians who championed the move to make Dr. Benedict Lust life president. When efforts were made to split the ranks at the Hotel Commodore in 1921. The vote was carried unanimously.

Schroth, Johann (Feb. 11, 1798-Mar. 26, 1856)
The theory of warm moisture; also the idea of dry diet and fasting cure, which became the foundation of the Schroth Cure.

Still, Andrew (Born Aug. 6, 1828)
Born in Lee County, Virgina. Founder of Osteopathy. He declared: "The back bone is the hone of all bones in the control of disease."

Abrams, Albert, M.D. (Born 1864)
Born in San Francisco, California. Pioneer investigator of electronic therapy.

Magnetopath and Masseur of Mid-Nineteenth Century. Originator of Chiropractice, founder of first Chiropractic College. Davenport. Iowa. Announced Chiropractic in 189Í.

Bulkley, Duncan L., M. D.
The first man of the medical profession in America to recognize the value of diet in the handling of cancer patients. Organized and founded N, Y. Skin and Cancer Hospital. Treated many patients successfully. Rejected by the A, M. A. and finally driven from the Society and from hospital,
Lane, Sir William Arbuthnot, Bart., C.B., M.S., F.R.C.S., etc.
Physician to former King of England. Consulting Surgeon at Guy's Hospital, London. Broke away from British. Medical Association in 1925 when it frowned upon his ideas for educating the public in health. Organized the New Health Society same year and took 1,500 doctors with him. Propounded theory of avitaminosis as a cause of cancer; wrote a number of books, his last, "New Health to Every Man".

Popularized Water Cure and coordinated systems. Author of Bilz Books, a standard enc; cyclopedia of Nature Cure.

Tilden, John, M.D. (1852-1942)
Propunded theory of auto-intoxication or toxemia. Author of many books, the most widely read. "Toxemia" and "The Pocket Dietitian".
Greene, Cordelia, M.D. (1831 - 1905)
One of the first women physicians in the United States; propounder of the simple, natural life, sensible habits of dress, child rearing. She believed the only indestructable force in our Universe is Mind; and emphasized the great power of Air.
Morass, Edward, M.D.
Late nineteenth and early twentieth century propounder of the doctrine of Autology a simple system of living.
Jennings, Isacc, M. D.
Mid-Nineteenth Century physician. Rejected medicine and propounded doctrine of non-treatment of disease, allowing nature to do all work. Eminently successful.
Adler, Alfred, M.D. (1881-1937)
Contemporary of Sigmund Freud, originator of Individual Psychology based on natural law. Individual Psychology ís so far in advance of anything else, that has been taught that it has suffered from lack of general use. Adler believed that Individual Psychology could be as well taught by non-medical men as by physicians; in fact, he preferred the former.
Lahman, Henry, M. D.
Ostracized from Medical College in Germany, finished College in Switzerland. Wrote first real scientific articles on Nature Cure, Natural Hygiene, 1891. Originated vegetable extracts, and soy bean and almond milk.
Winternitz, Wilhelm, M. D.
Viennese physician, called Father of Modern Hydrotherapy.
R. T. Trall, M. D.
In sixties. was granted charter in New York to run Hydropathic College, and grant M.D. degrees. Wrote Hydropathic Encyclopedia. Originator of the Hygienic System.
Kneipp, Father Sebastian (May 17, 1821 - 1897)
Born at Stephensreid near Ottobeuren. As a weak young man trying to help himself, i came upon "Hahn's Water Doctor", one of the first treatises on the subject of Water Cure. Father Kneipp followed out the same progressive development as Preissnitz from treatment of self, to friends; and finally those he served as Priest. Kneipp developed his system along own lines, entirely independent of any other system. He wrote a number of books which appeared in every language; established the Kneipp Cure at Woerishofen which still operates today. Doctor Lust studied under him in 1891. Kneipp and Priesnitz water cures are keystones of Naturopathy.

Mid-Eighteenth Century physician. Wrote a system of Water Cure known "Enforced Water Cure". This laid foundation for reviving the therapy. It has never been shown that Hahn influenced Priessnitz, who followed his own observations.

Lindlahr, Henry, M.D., N.D. (1853-1925)
Formulated complete philosophy of natural methods as the "Philosophy of Naturopathy"-. Propounded such truths and principles as: "The primary cause of germ activity is in the morbid soil in which bacteria feed, grow and multiply."
Bechamp, Pierre Jacques Antoine, M.D., D.S., M.P. (1857 - 1875)
Bechamp discovered process of fermentation. Discoverer of smallest forms of life, which he called Microzyma (minute ferment bodies). Microzymian theory of disease refutes the commonly accepted germ theory of disease. Microzymian theory proves the very foundation on which Naturopathy rests. It proves the unity of disease as expounded by Louis Kuline; and the unity of basic treatment as pro-pounded by Adolph Just.
Paracelsus (1493- 1541)
Famed Swiss physician and naturalist, First to advance theory that life's processes are chemical. His motto was: "Natura Artis Magistra" (Nature is the Teacher of Science).
Hahnemann, Samuel Christopher, M.D. (1755-1843)
Propounded startling doctrine of "similia similibus curantur" in Germany in 1790; greatest contribution to our therapy, his book: "Cure of all Diseases". His book, "Friend of Health" was one of first efforts in preventative medicine, more truly natural living.
Kuhne, Louis (? - 1907)
Practiced in Leipzig, Germany. A born natural physician. Found way into work through own ailments. In 1864 attended congress of natural healers for help. There met the healer Meltzer. Four years later he came into contact with Theodore Hahn of Waid. Formulated theory of Unity of Disease. Kuhne claimed: "Disease is the presence of foreign matter in the body." His book, "Neo-Naturopathy" is truly the Naturopathic pathology of disease. He declared "Cleanliness only heals."
Just, Adolph (Died 1939)
Author of "Return to Nature". Reduced Nature Cure to its utter simplicity. He evolved the idea of moist heat. Among truths he expounded are: "Nature does not err." "All nature doctors must regard it as their ideal aim to develop the people to the point where each will be his own physician." Just was first to advance theory that "acute diseases are most favorable healing crisis, and should be greeted with joy."
Annie Riley Hale (1854 - 1946)
Outstanding lay writer and champion of Medical Freedom. Author of "These Cults"
Ignatz Von Peczely, M.D. (Jan. 26, 1826 - Egavan, near Budapest, Hungary)
August F. Reinhold, M.A., M.D., Ph. D., N.D., (1861 - 1904)
Graduated with honors at the Royal University of Berlin. III health and failure of Medical Doctors to help him prompted introspection. Sought help elsewhere. Found relief in Water Treatments. In 1882, began earnest study of Bilz, Kneipp, Kuhne, Trail and others. 1885 to 1900 translated Louis Kuhne's "Facial Diagnosis" also "Nature vs. Drugs", "Positive Prevention and Cure of Tuberculosis", and "Natural Methods of Cure."

May truth richly guide the deliberations of all the sessions of your convention and may the genuine work of the pioneers of Naturopathy rise above and take precedence over the dross of the pseudo science the so called moderns who would make of Naturopathy a school of medicine rather than adhere to its profoundly simply philosophy and effective practice. PHYSIOTHERAPY IN COMBINATION WITH NATURE CURE

The rapid and amazing development and progress accomplished by non-drug or physical therapy in recent years has been most phenomenal. The extensive use of these methods in treating the many wounded and disabled in our. Army and Navy hospitals in World war I and more recently in World War II, proved their value beyond question in the quick and remarkable recoveries recoded.
Physical therapy or physiotherapy has become in very truth a human salvage service and its scope of use is constantly widening and its application is to-day attendant with exact precision.
And physiotherapy will do so much more now after World War II reclaiming and bringing back thousands to a normal and useful life.
Physical measures lave been used since ancient times for the treatment of chronic arthritis to cite but one common ailment as is evidenced by the pilgrimage of rheumatic suffer e to spas and hot springs.
Perhaps no disease has been more discussed than arthritis. It has baffled the wisest physicians by its various and difficult forms. And those of us who have come in contact with sufferers know how often there is a tone of hopelessness in the words "I have arthritis" The implication in the tone itself conveys the despair that is associated with the disease. I shall not go into the statistics of arthritis or rheumatoid disorders which are appalling. Suffice it to say that physiotherapy combined with rational dietetic instruction has worked wonders.
The American Medical Association recently announced that as a result of the careful study of fifty arthritis patients, they were convinced that "stress of poverty, grief and worry had done much to cause this disease for the greater majority of these cases.
Worry is the interest we pay before it is due. Many of us need to heed the words "Sufficient unto the day is the evil thereof.” we must not drag the future into the present "Keep the fences up between the days" is a favorite phrase of a well known author, by which he means that we ought to live one day at a time. When the new day comes will be time enough to lift its burden. We are always borrowing trouble, much of which never comes except in anticipation.
And those of us who have seen the distressing and strength-sapping forebodings as to the future, know how the patient needs great sympathy and at the same time needs the cheeriest and most tactful counsel, so as to help him or her overcome those wearing down handicaps to health.
When one recalls, too, the oft-quoted words of that great Frenchman, Voltaire, "Physicians put medicine of which they know little into bodies of which they know less, to cure diseases, of which they know nothing at all," he is not surprised that orthodox physicians have become more and more interested in physical therapy.
It should be emphasized that while Physiotherapy is helpful, not only in arthritis and other rheumatoid disorders and many other conditions, to be more effective Naturopathy embracing all those rational constructive non-drug practices and physiological methods conforming to the natural fundamental laws which are indispensable for life and health, should be applied.
Health is just as much a gift to man as life itself. Both are promoted by the same creative forces.
Healing, strictly speaking, is a "recreation" and Nature only can heal. The mighty forces of the universe are dedicated to the promotion of life and health. The supreme and perpetual aim of Nature is life.
Nature only can cure and whatever agent we may use, whether it is a physical or medicinal one, it can do good only insofar as it assists Nature in its work of healing. This is the primary object of every intelligent and successful practitioner. He should ever be a co-worker with Nature.
Light therapy, Helio therapy, Hydrotherapy, Electrotherapy, Exercise, Mechanotherapy and all Physiotherapeutic agents can never be anything else but the healing methods of first choice. Their superiority as curative agents no longer need to be argued upon.
The Natural Laboratories—the fields and forests—produce vegetable plants, roots and herbs, not the laboratories of men. That they were intended to be used in promoting health undoubtedly suggested itself to man instinctively, as they were designed by the Creator to assist Nature in correcting the ills and maintaining the normal health of mankind. In the substitution of chemical and synthetic drugs and inorganic minerals for the Natural Vegetable Herb Foods we have gone altogether too far and paid altogether too much.
There is one great fundamental law which any and every form of therapeutics must accept and observe, if a full measure of success is to be attained. It is the fact that the forces of Nature, without exception, operate under fixed conditions and with unerring certainty. This law of Nature is the very foundation of drugless therapy, the procedures of which are designed to coincide with these natural forces insofar as they govern the physics and chemistry of the human body.
The scientific application of all Natural methods for the restoration of health, and the teaching of natural correct living, is the bounden duty of the Naturopathic Physician.

FROM OUR DEPARTED LEADE

Greetings to the Officers, the Trustees, Members and Friends
assembled at the 47th Annual Congress of the
American Naturopathic Association

More than ever, in these disturbed times, we must adhere to our principles, our convictions and our ideals of Natural Living and the Nature Cure, which are summed up in the single word: Naturopathy. We are called into this great work to give an account of ourselves, not only to the members of our profession, but also the public in general which has placed its faith in us for health guidance. It is a great privilege, a sacred duty, to give to this movement, this cause of humanity, the very best that is in us. Naturopathy is the science of life, based on the only authority, God, Who hascreated Nature with her laws for the benefit or mankind. This is not a question of one system, or a question of one school, one cult, one sect or one monopoly. It is all inclusive and covers everything connected with the healing art, that comes within these natural laws.
Naturopathy includes all methods, even medical and surgical, methods as it is the only school, which gives a scientific basis to all methods. Naturopathy is the mother the matrix, the tree, from which all other methods have branched and developed. It includes authoritative, natural living on the three planes: physical mental and spiritual That is the beginning and the end of true Nature Cure.
The schools of Naturopathy, which teach all branches of natural healing — that have sprung up since the beginning of time for the one specific purpose, to help the human organism to restore to a normal state by removing causes, instead of suppressing symptoms — have expounded our simple principles of making the agents of life become the agents of cure.
Only in union there is strength. But in that union we must have character, willingness to suffer and to sacrifice, to reach our goal of full recognition, by proving to State Legislatures and the Federal Government, that such recognition would be a benefit and therefore a necessity to the health of the American people which otherwise would degenerate. Yet we must be authoritative in the control of the natural life of the people, in order to prevent decadence and national failure, by following strictly the Naturopathic principles and obtaining for Naturopathy the full protection and recognition it merits. We will serve society by helping to overcome economic, political and religious difficulties and shortcomings, which, unfortunately, are the cause of war. We stand for peace, for justice, and for the rights of free man all over the world.
May God guide and protect you, May the Holy Spirit of Nature be with you in your constructive deliberations. May there evolve from this 47th Congress of the American Naturopathic Association, a new dispensation, that will bring a glorious unfoldment of Naturopathy for the benefit of all mankind, to usher in the golden era of health, of happiness, peace and understanding on the principle of true service, equal rights, happiness, freedom and liberty.

AN APPEAL FOR RECOGNITION OF THE NATUROPATH

Taft:— July seventh, 1947

While I never had the pleasure of meeting you personally, I was standing close enough to you, and looking into your smiling face immediately after the vote on the Labor Bill last Monday to grasp your hand and speak with you. That was in the Reception Room in the Senate Chambers. You were conversing with a man and his son and I was prompted to interfere for a moment, but felt I would wait until I had gone upstairs, and then as I was about to speak to you, you turned and walked over to the corner and sat down with your guests.
When I came downstairs in a few minutes yon had gone. So you may remember me, as you looked directly in my face. It was somewhere between two and three o'clock in the afternoon.
I wanted to grasp your hand and speak to you for a few moments with regard to the HEALTH BILL, and also the EDUCATÍONAL BILL. The First Bill as I understand, is being sponsored by yourself and fellow Senators, Ball and McDonnell. As I understand it, it would provide two hundred million dollars to States for medical, surgical and hospital service. While there is no objection to making available assistive funds to help our needy citizens, I feel that any Bill that does not take into consideration the matter of the freedom of choice of one's physician, falls short of benefiting that large part of our population which is growing ever larger, which depends upon physicians of schools other than the orthodox allopathic school of medicine, and hence any funds made available to hospitals would naturally be disposed of for medical aid only. This same procedure would be carriel out in States where medical aid would be given for medical aid surgical and for citizens needing it.
I should like to suggest that you give the matter serious study and consider the unfairness of making available a fund of two hundred million dollars to be disposed of through one school of healing. In all fairness to the people in this country who depend upon methods, other than drugging methods for aid when they become ill, I believe, that your Bill, or in fact any other Bill that might be considered, should contain a clause indicating that the money .should be available for expenditure to physicians of the school of healing chosen by the individual. In other words, those in need have a right to indicate whether they desire the service of a Chiropractor, Osteopath, Christain Scientist, Naprapath, Neuropath, or a Naturopath. I represent the latter school of healing, and am the official head of the American Naturopathic Association, Inc.
The non-drug physicians of America number at least thirty-five thousand. Certainly these physicians and the people they serve, should be given some consideration in framing any Bill for the public health and welfare, in which public monies are to be distributed among the States for assistance in providing treatment and carc.
Upon such a clause as referred to is provided in your HEALTH BILL it is believed, that we will only sink deeper and deeper into the mire of medical dictatorship, such as was so ably expressed by Benjamin Rush, M.D., one of the signers of the Declaration of Independence, when he said:

"The Constitution of this Republic should make special , provision for MEDICAL FREEDOM. To restrict the art of healing to one class will constitute the Bastille of MEDICAL SCIENCE. All such laws are un-American and despotic."

It is hoped that in the interest of fairness and democracy and public welfare, that you will give this matter your serious consideration, and will strive to have your Bill amended to include the clause suggested. With every kind wish, I am,

Session are allowed to encourage attention to morning lectures as experience has taught
us physicians neglect these.
More points are given on morning demonstration to encourage attendance at the earlier hours.

A physician must have a total of 40 points to earn Golden Jubilee Certificate.

WHAT IS NATUROPATHY?

Naturopathy is the true natural art and science of the betterment of man.
Naturopathy embraces and includes all natural forces with which man in his natural environment normally comes into contact.
These forces are sun, air, water, earth, thought, food, physical activity and spiritual meditation. All these are part and parcel of man.
More than that, Naturopathy reaches beyond encouraging Natural Living. It attempts to restore health to the ailing, and strength to the weak in body through the graduated and individualized use of all natural measures of healing as: Heliotherapy, Aerotherapy, Hydrotherapy, Phytotherapy, Physcultopathy, Mecanotherapy, Physiotherapy, Fasting and Diet Therapy, and Psychotherápy.
Naturopathy represents the only complete and all inclusive natural and non¬drug system of human betterment.

THE AMERICAN NATUROPATHIC ASSOCIATION AND ITS PURPOSE

.This year the American Naturopathic Association, Inc. will be 51 years old. We celebrate our 50th birthday a year late because of lack of facilities and other matters beyond our control in 1946.
Founded by Dr. Benedict Lust, the American Naturopathic Association was con­ceived as an instrument for welding practitioners together in fellowship and strength to resist the powerful opposition of the American Medical Association.
It served this purpose admirably and grew to become the most powerful force for health education via natural principles and forces in the country, it not m the world.
Dr. Lust, less than half a dozen years before founding the A.N.A. had been commissioned by Father Sebastian Kneipp to bring the Kneipp Cure to America and spread the gospel of good health in the New World.
He did this effectively by opening a Water Cure Institution in New York and later Butler, N. J. and also started a Journal called the Kneipp Water Cure Monthly, but he felt the need of an association of the pioneers for the purposes enumerated.
During the course of the American Naturopathic Association's life under the leadership of Dr. Benedict Lust, its life President, it was responsible for legislation in many States in the Union where Naturopaths, Chiropractors and other non-drug physicians are now recognized and have their own board.
There are Naturopathic laws in Maine, Utah, California, South Carolina, Florida, and Tennessee, etc. All in all there is part or whole recognition in some 25 to 30 States as well as Hawaii. And all of this can be attributed to the vision and dogged perseverance of one man the late, Dr. Benedict Lust, who traveled the length and breadth of the land lecturing and organizing State societies, branches of the parent organization, the American Naturopathic Association, Inc., and prosecuting legislation wherever possible.
It was Dr. Benedict Lust as president of the American Naturopathic Association who fought for the very principles of freedom of the healing arts which Benjamín Rush, M.D. insisted be a part of our Constitution and without which he declared: "Without medical liberty our independence is in vain."
Benjamín Rush, be it remembered, was one of our foremost physicians in the early history of our country, a graduate of Princeton University taking his degree in medicine at Edinburgh, Scotland and a signer of the Declaration of Independence. He foresaw the viciousness of State and Federal medicine confined to one school of healing and tried to prevent it.
A Naturopathic Bill lacked one vote of passing in New York 20 odd years ago and would have long ago become a law in this State except for dissension and factionalism in the ranks of the physicians themselves.
Now, more than ever, the American Naturopathic Association, Inc., has become a great instrument for educating the public on the value of natural methods of healing through the individual practitioner.
While legislation is still looked after and sponsored wherever possible, the primary object of the ANA. is to educate the people to the value of natural healing principles, and the simplicity of their use, and maintain standards for practitioners.
This persisted in and followed by efficient professional service. when its members, are called upon, it is believed will lead to public demand for legislation to protect honest practitioners and the public wherever Naturopathy is .known.
High standards of scholarship and training of physicians; character assets; invaluable and unparalleled service to clients; constant teaching of the philosophy of Naturopathy to patients as well as rendering the immediate aid necessary, represent the purpose of the American Naturopathic Association as it exists today.
By persistently keeping these things in view it is believed that legislation will come by public demand in all States in the not too distant future.

From that time 51 years ago when Dr. Benedict Lust gave to the World the correlations of Natural methods under the banner of Naturopathy, the non-drug healing movement under his direct influence has spread throughout the world.
Our beloved leader had contacts with leaders all over the world throughout the years. He reached out into every country with his message. A new generation abroad has arrived on the scene. They are carrying forward the work, the seed for which in most cases was planted by the untiring efforts of Dr. Lust.
He missed no opportunity to spread the message of Nature Cure. His name is known in every land, for it was he who introduced the old pioneers throughout the world to keep the fire of truth burning. It was he who so widely circulated the works of Just, Kuhne, Kneipp, Rickli, Schroth, Englehardt, and so many others, until to-day they are as well known, if not better, than they are here.
Naturopathy or Nature Cure has encompassed the world. Fear not. No medical machine can ever stop true Naturopathy and Nature Cure. It is here to stay.
In the remotest corners of the earth the protagonists of Nature Cure march for­ward bravely. No land has been left untouched by this great movement of which we are privileged to be a part, and in which we are duty bound to serve to the very best of our ability.
Portugal, Spain, France, Czechoslovakia, Poland, Russia, Germany, Holland, Belgium, Sweden, Norway, Denmark, etc. have their Nature Cure Champions.
England though greatly oppressed by restrictive medical laws as we are here has a vigorous Nature Cure movement.
Scotland has its Leader and Champion, even as does Ireland and to the south of us, México and all of the South American countries are showing healthy growth.
Australia, New Zealand and Tasmania of the Antipodes have a strong movement. This is also true of South Africa.
And in India the basic Nature Cure Movement has become very wide spread through the support given it by Mahatma Ghandi himself.
From some of these countries we are proud to have direct representation at this Congress and we welcome them whole heartedly and with the hope that their stay with us will mean much to them in their work.
From others of the countries we have named we have had splendid papers and greetings from leaders, for which we are grateful.
So yon see we are all a part of a tremendous world encompassing movement which was started by our dear friend and leader these many years ago.
We must and will carry this work forward in the same humble spirit of true ser-vice upon which it was founded by him 51 years ago.
We are embarked upon our second half century as an organization. May it please God that when we reach our hundredth anniversary those who come after us may be able to say, "Well done thou good and faithful servants of humanity."

Transformación de Criterio

Escritos de la obra “No Coma más Enfermedades y Cúrese Comiendo”

Para dar una idea de la transformación que sufre el criterio científico de los médicos alópatas, si conocer en la práctica profesional, el resultado negativo de los medicamentos que a diario surgen en el comercio, me permito citar valerosos conceptos de eminentes facultativos que, ante la dolorosa verdad de la experiencia y en forma de anatema, hacen graves revelaciones que la humanidad no debe ignorar: y en guarda de la salud pública estamos en la obligación de divulgar profusamente.

He aquí algunas interesantes opiniones de eminentes médicos.

“El Doctor Alexander H. Stevens, catedrático de las Escuelas Medicas y Cirugía de Nueva York, observa que todos los médicos en general, a medida de los años de práctica que llevan, recurren cada vez menos a los medicamentos y confían más en los esfuerzos de la naturaleza cosa notada por todo el mundo es que el médico joven receta mucho más que el encanecido en la profesión”

“El célebre fisiólogo francés Francois Magendie, no vacila en declarar, aún a trueque de herir la vanidad de la clase a que pertenece, que la ignorancia de la verdadera índole de la alteración fisiológica, llamada enfermedad, es tal que acaso valdría más no hacer nada y dejar el mal al cuidado de la naturaleza, pues obrando sin saber, cómo ni por qué, se corre riesgo de precipitar el curso funesto de la enfermedad”

“El doctor H. A. Hall, conocido fisiólogo inglés, no duda de que una gran parte de las defunciones en los niños, es debida al empleo inoportuno de remedios que agotan las fuerzas vitales”.

“En el parecer del doctor J. M. Good, la ciencia médica actual es un galimatías bárbaro; los efectos de los medicamentos sobre nuestros cuerpos, son en extremo inciertos. Lo único que sabemos es que con ellos se han segado más vidas que con la guerra, la peste y el hambre juntas”.

“El director de la “Revista de medicina y Cirugía”, doctor Johnson está convencido, fundándose en su larga experiencias práctica y maduras reflexiones, de que habría menos enfermos y menos mortandad en el mundo si no tuviésemos medicamentos”.

“En una disertación del consejo de sanidad, doctor Lorinser, publicada en el número 45 de la “revista de medicina” de Viena, se lee: “Grandioso y trascendental es el error de los grandes sacerdotes de la metería médica -estudios de los medicamentos- y que inculcan a sus discípulos y luego éstos, a los suyos. Se atribuyen a multitud de medicamentos del reino mineral y animal, efectos descritos con minuciosos por menores, tan extraordinarios que de resultar verdaderos al pié de la letra, el género humano se vería para siempre redimido de toda enfermedad”.

“Hace más de un siglo que dijo Hermann Boerhaave, el gran naturista y médico holandés, que si se compara el bien que han hecho media docena de verdaderos hijos de Esculapio, con el mal causado a la humanidad por el inmenso número de médicos, no habría quien no piensa que más hubiera valido que nunca hubiesen existido médicos”

“El profesor Hecker observa, que se declaran mortíferos muchos medicamentos que pocos años antes se tenia por muy eficaces”.

“El profesor doctor Bock recuerda que Hipócrates decía hace más de dos mil años, que es la naturaleza la que cura la enfermedad; y añadía “lejos de mi cabecera todo colega medicó mano!!”.

“El doctor Lauter Brunton, profesor de materia médica y terapéutica en el hospital de St, Barthelemy dice: “Nuestras ideas son muchas veces vagas y nebulosas. Propinamos a menudo medicamentos al acaso, sin ideas precisas sobre el efecto que devén producir, esperando, sin embargo, obtener el resultado deseado y asi no sucede, sin podérnoslo explicar, probamos otro remedio”.

“Sir. Robert Christison, profesor de materia médica en la Universidad de Edimburgo, reconoce que de todas las ciencias médicas la terapéuticas es la menos precisa, la de estado menos satisfactorio en la actualidad, la más atrasada. Más de un millón de preparaciones farmacológicas, han caído en desuso y en el olvido después de una corta popularidad usurpada”.
“El doctor Steudel, burlándose de la especificación de los medicamentos, esto es, de la creencia de que los medicamentos ingeridos van a obrar sobre el órgano de la manera especial imaginada, advierte que de esa manera se toma el estómago por un buzón de correos para que vayan los paquetes que en él se echan _ Polvos, píldoras, mixtulas, etc. a la dirección consignada”.

“El profesor doctor Kobert, dice en la pagina 81 de su obra de “Toxicología”: “Más frecuente son de lo que se cree generalmente las intoxicaciones medicinales, esto es, envenenamiento por medicinas mal dosificadas o empleadas inoportunamente, algunos de cuyos casos terminan fatalmente. Entonces el médico forense se vé en la penosa obligación de acusar de homicida a su colega; pero no puede hacerlo, pues acusado aduciría como justificante que el tal medicamento se encuentra en tal o cual libro, recomendando en semejantes casos, en semejantes dosis, etc. No conozco veneno que no se haya ensayado y hasta empleado como medicamento, por ejemplo, el ácido fluorhídrico con que se grava el cristal, inatacable por los ácidos más enérgicos la dinamita bajo el seudónimo de trinitrina, etc.”

“El doctor Vicente J. Morra dice: “La alopatía recurrió a su hora al reino mineral y a la flora venenosa, para edificar su terapéutica, cuyo uso entraña constantemente perjuicio para la salud y peligro para la vida, sobre todo cuando sus dosis no están bien dirigidas y aún así, se puede afirmar que los enfermos no escapan a la larga a la intoxicación medicamentosa”.
!Cuantas muertes prematuras ha producido la medicina oficial con sus drogas, sueros y vacunas! !Cuántas desdicha ha labrado en el mundo con su sistema anticuado!” .

“El doctor Kieser encuentra acertado el proverbio de que “el remedio es peor que la enfermedad” en muchos casos en que se emplean medicamentos. Lo único que el médico puede y debe procurar, es alejar las causas de la enfermedad y lo que la fomenta o sostiene, sin dejarse vencer por la medicomanía, la teoría dogmática o el lucro. De otro modo se engendran enfermedades artificiales. Los sistemas teóricos de la historia de la medicina, han causado más víctimas que las epidemias y las guerras más terribles”.

“El gran fisiólogo Xavier Bichard confiesa que la medicina es un cúmulo incoherente de ideas heterogéneas. Es tal vez de todas las ciencias la que pone de manifiesto de una manera más clara la aberración del espíritu humano. Y es que no fue creada por un espíritu humano. Y es que no fue creada por un espíritu metódico, sino por una serie de observaciones, a menudo pueriles, recogidas en circunstancias muy diversas, de métodos ilusorio y de fórmulas tan ridículas como arbitrariamente combinadas, de modo que la práctica de la medicina tropieza con un sinnúmero de contradicciones. !Mentira parece, pues, que haya hombres razonables que se dedique a semejante profesión!”.

“El doctor Trincks opina que la medicina alopática desaparecerá con el tiempo, como todo lo que es contrario al buen sentido y a la naturaleza. Cuando llegue ese día, podrá la humanidad regocijarse tanto, que olvide las victimas causadas por aquella durante tantos siglos”.

“El doctor Forth no conoce tráfico más infame que el que se hace con la medicina actual. La indolencia en no querer abril los ojos, es lo que la fomenta”.

“El doctor Coy dice, que los escritores médicos copiando lo que han asegurado sus predecesores, como cosa de fe, en vez de ponerlo a prueba ellos mismos, sin juicio formado a su favor, propagan el error y detienen el progreso de la verdadera ciencia médica”.

“El profesor Carson refiere que su maestro recetaba, por todo medio para hacer sudar, agua con algo que le diese color y que lograba mejorar efectos que los que empleaban sudoríficas”.

Una vigorosa afirmación de que no son los sueros ni vacunas ni las múltiples productos de laboratorio lo que cura y previene contra las enfermedades, la tenemos en el autorizado concepto del actual ministro de Higiene profesor Jorge Bejarano, en su valeroso reportaje intitulado “Enseñar” a comer a los colombianos, base de nuestro bienestar”, Publicado en “EL TIEMPO” del seis de mayo, número 13.470 y que en uno de sus apartes dice lo siguientes:
“la época presente, se marca por grandes avances en el dominio de la nutrición. Muchas enfermedades han ido desapareciendo por razón de mejores condiciones económicas que permiten mejor alimentación y habitación. Tal, por ejemplo, el caso del paludismo y de la lepra, el beriberi, la pelagra y el raquitismo. Por esto sigo pensado que la medicina ha perdido muchos años en lucha sostenida contra microbios o parásitos y que en cambio en Colombia seguiremos derrochando millones contra la lepra, la tuberculosis, el paludismo. Mientras el pueblo ignore lo que debe de comer”.

Al doctor Jorge bejarano ministro de higiene, le fue enviado el siguiente marconigrama desde Cali:“Permitame felicitarle su señoría por avanzados conceptos ineficacia terapéutica microbiana, según reportaje aparecido EL TIEMPO ayer, En el Congreso Mundial Medicina Naturopática reunido en la ciudad de Nueva York julio 27 de 1947, sostuve ante delegados que positiva ciencia curar no radica en recargar a los pacientes de sueros, vacunas múltiples derivados laboratorio que sólo alteran sistemas funcional complicando estado morboso, sino aplicando conscientemente leyes biológicas, estudiando necesidades fisiológicas, organismo humano, suministrándole en estado natural, lo indispensable reforzar defensas, colaborando naturaleza desenvolvimiento equilibrio, e intensificando ingeniería sanitaria. Próximamente remito la obra titulado “No Coma más Enfermedades y Cúrese Comiendo” , del que soy autor.

Sociedad Naturista Colombiana Reivindica la Labor Médica del Profesor Narváez, en 1947

Mi apreciado doctor y amigo
He visto en el Tiempo de ayer una información suministrada “por un alto funcionario de ese Ministerio” sobre la pena de tres meses de prisión para un falso médico que ejercía en forma ilícita.

Luego explica el diario, que esto se hace con el Profesor Conrado Narváez Zuluaga, de Cali, porque ha estado violando la ley sobre ejercicio de Medicina y por ello el Ministerio quiere reprimir esos abusos que se están cometiendo contra la salud pública, por muchos teguas, yerbateros, “farsantes e indelicados”, por lo cual se ha pedido a las Direcciones de Higiene en los Departamentos, para que persigan y sancionen a todos aquel, que en su concepto está violando la Ley.

Pero yo pregunto al Señor Ministro: Qué se entiende por ejercicio ilegal de la medicina? Según nuestra legislación para ello es necesario que concurran tres elementos, diagnosticar, formular por escrito alguna droga y cobrar honorarios.

Un botánico, un naturista, un homeópata que no receten drogas, ni formulen o realicen intervención de alta cirugía, sino que curan mediante la fisiatría, es decir, por los procedimientos naturales, agua, aire, sol, trofoterapia, ejercicios, masajes, diatermia, psicoterapia o prescriba el uso de plantas medicinales, NO PUEDE CONSIDERARSE INFRACTOR A LAS LEYES SOBRE EJERCICIO DE LA MEDICINA.

Entonces, por qué se permiten la publicación de libros sobre Fitoterapia y Botánica, como lo hizo el Gobierno Nacional, por conducto de la Contraloría General, con libros del padre E. Pérez Arbeláez titulado “plantas útiles de Colombia” y muchos otros, que son una revelación de la ciencia, de gran servicio social, porque enseñan las virtudes de frutas, plantas y tallos ? o es que la Botánica es monopolio de alguna Academia o privilegio de los Médicos?

No sabemos hasta ahora, que las autoridades de higiene, o ese Ministerio haya sancionado a muchos “ falsos médicos”, que ejercen desde hace muchos años, con un certificado de la Facultad de Medicina, para que puedan recetar, mientras terminan estudios o rehabilitan algún curso perdido ? Se les ha prohibido “su ejercicio ilegal de la medicina”, o se les ha llamado o empíricos y llevados a la cárcel como estafadores ?

Que la ley sea para todos, sin privilegios odiosos o distinciones, por que en Colombia no existen monopolios, El profesor. Conrado Narváez Zuluaga, no es cirujano, ni la ejerce, no es empírifico, ni puede llamarse “yerbatero” o “tegua”. Ejerce una industria, sin que por ello tenga que “pertenecer al gremio de maestros o doctores” y si receta plantas o aconseja tratamientos naturales, y así devuelven la salud a muchas personas, “ desahuciados” por la medicina oficial, por que fracasaron en todos sus tratamientos alópatas. De estos casos, son muchos los certificados que tiene el señor Profesor. Conrado Narváez Zuluaga.

Como miembro de nuestra Organización naturista y como el Prof. Narváez esta cumpliendo con nuestros principios , que fueron aprobados por el ministerio de Gobierno, según Resolución N- 287 de 10 de julio de 1945, cuando se nos reconoció personería jurídica, es conveniente hacerle saber al señor Ministro Dr. Cruz, que a quien practica el Naturismo o induce a otros que lo practiquen no podría perseguírsele o enviarse a la cárcel, por que a algún médico alópata o funcionario de policía, se le antoje denunciar lo por ejercicio ilegal de la medicina.

Por otra parte, ya el señor Ministro Dr. Cruz en su oficio N- 20458 de 21 de agosto último, nos dijo que efectivamente las escuelas médicas homeópatas y naturistas tienen derecho a subsistir por lo cual se interesaría para crear estas cátedras en las Universidades.

En esta forma quedarán en pié de igualdad todas las escuelas Médicas y no se continuará la piratería, por medio de la explotación a la ignorancia del pueblo y comerciando con su enfermedad el privilegiado gremio de los “DOCTORES ALOPATAS” Para mayor garantía, las campañas sanitarias debieran hacerlas los ingenieros o cualquiera otras personas y no los médicos.

Por último, le pido con todo respeto al señor Ministro, que atendiendo a las consideraciones anteriores, se haga justicia con el Señor. Profesor. Conrado Narváez Zuluaga de Cali y se ordene su libertad, si es que en verdad ha sido detenido, por un delito que no existe o no ha cometido.

Reflexión:
Durante el ejercicio de su labor como médico naturista , en reiteradas ocasiones el Profesor Narváez fue injustamente acusado de transgredir la ley de ejercicio de la medicina. El éxito en la vida no se mide por lo que se logra, sino por los obstáculos entre otros (falsas acusaciones) que Conrado Narváez Zuluaga “Profesor Narváez” tuvo que enfrentar en el camino. Con la tolerancia que le caracterizó, y el legado que dejo en pro de la Medicina Naturopática en Colombia, siendo benefactor de la naturaleza humana.

En 1965 REGISTRA la obra “SUPERACIÓN FÍSICA Y MENTAL” como propiedad intelectual de Conrado Narváez Zuluaga con C. C. # 2.929,857 expedida en Bogotá. En el MINISTERIO DE GOBIERNO en la Sección de Propiedad Intelectual y Prensa del Ministerio de Gobierno. Libro de Registro número. – tomo 8° - de “obras científicas, literarias y artísticas”. Aparece una partida que a la letra dice: “Partida N° 249.- libro 2°. – tomo 8°. Obra: “SUPERACIÓN FÍSICA Y MENTAL” Autor Conrado Narváez Zuluaga,. En Bogotá, D. E., Colombia el día trece (13) de octubre de mil novecientos sesenta y cinco (1.965) el suscrito jefe de la sección de propiedad intelectual y prensa, satisfechos los requisitos legales, registra la obra.
Siendo el Profesor Narváez Pionero de la medicina Naturópata en Colombia – Medicina Naturista – botánico naturista científico colombiano que aporto temas de Naturopatía a la sociedad Naturopática Americana reunido en Nueva York en 1947.

RECORTE DE PRENSA. Aparecen en la foto de abajo a la izquierda, el señor Polidoro Collazos. Residente en Pradera Valle. Quien durante largos años padeció una aguda enfermedad de las vías digestivas y del sistema nervioso que obligó a seguir largos tratamientos infructuosos. Posteriormente se sometió a una operación quirúrgica, con resultados negativos; al notificársele una nueva intervención de los cirujanos se encontró con que no podía sufragar nuevos gastos para salvar su salud. Entonces acudió al Profesor Narváez Zuluaga (a la derecha de la foto) quien después de someter al paciente a un tratamiento por medio de procedimientos Naturistas y botánicos logró curar al Señor. Collazos de sus dolencias.

El índice del Profesor Narváez Zuluaga señala la cicatriz existente sobre el abdomen de Polidoro Collazos, como consecuencia de la operación quirúrgica a que fue sometido sin resultados satisfactorios.

Abandonada a un Pronostico Fatal “La Muerte” Cali mayo 2 de 1947

Para efectos que interesan al profesor Conrado Narváez Zuluaga, botánico naturista de esta ciudad, atentamente le pido se sirva citar y hacer comparecer en su despacho a la señora Isabel Olarte Ospina, mayor de edad y vecina de esta ciudad, para que juratoriamente declare al tenor del siguiente interrogatorio:
I. Lo de Ley.
II. Exprese si es verdad que el profesor Conrado Narváez Zuluaga con sus métodos científicos botánicos y naturismo restableció en su salud a su hija de nombre Fabiola Olarte Ospina, la cual fue tratada por muchos y eminentísimos médicos de esta ciudad, quienes a la postre por no haber podido combatir la enfermedad de esta niña la abandonaron con el pronostico fatal de que cuanto se le hiciera era inútil por cuanto moriría en breve tiempo.
III. Que diga la exponente si es verdad que después de haber salido su hija de la jurisdicción y tratamiento de los médicos que la atendían en su enfermedad, recurrió como ultimo recurso a buscar los servicios del naturista botánico Profesor Narváez Zuluaga, quien con sus procedimientos y después de luchar contra la muerte logro salvar la vida de su hija, la cual se encuentra completamente restablecida de la enfermedad que la aquejaba, ante el asombro de la familia y de sus amistades que han logrado comprobar la bondad y eficacia científica de los métodos del profesor Narváez Zuluaga y del mucho y positivo bien que con ello está presentando a los asociados en forma filantrópica y generosa.
IV. Que exprese la declarante si es verdad que su citada hija Fabiola permaneció durante mucho tiempo postrada en el Hospital de San Juan de Dios, sin que hubieran logrado reaccionar de sus padecimientos con el tratamiento de la medicina general administrado por notables galenos de esta ciudad; y si la declarante en guarda de la verdad quiere presentar sus fórmulas innumerables en el acto de declarar, que las exhiba ante el Señor Juez al rendir esta declaración. Igualmente puede presentar para mayor identidad la foto de la niña enferma si quiere la declarante y es su voluntad que tanto ésta como las fórmulas se agreguen a la presente declaración.

Sufragaré el recaudo legal para esta declaración se reciba a la mayor brevedad y se me entregue adjunta a esta petición con los demás documentos que presente la declarante

Isabel Ospina de Olarte el Juzgado Segundo Civil Municipal de Cali, hoy dos de mayo de mil novecientos cuarenta y siete, con el fin de rendir declaración que de ella se solicita en el memorial procedente- El señor Juez personalmente y por ante su secretario, la juramento en la forma legal, bajo cuya gravedad ofreció decir la verdad, toda la verdad y nada más que la verdad. - Interrogada que fue conforme al punto primero dijo: “ Mi nombre y apellido es como quedan dichos, mayor de edad, de esta vecindario, portadora de la tarjeta de identidad postal número 17740 de Pereira y sin generales de Ley con el preguntante doctor Abelardo Restrepo Vélez y el profesor Conrado Narváez Zuluaga”.
Al 2°. –Contesto: “En mi condición de madre legitima de la menor Fabiola Olarte Ospina, a principios de mes de enero del año en curso, acudí en asocio de mi esposo señor José Jesús Olarte y de nuestra citada hija, al local que ocupa el profesor Conrado Narváez Zuluaga en solicitud de su protección por medio de sus métodos científicos botánicos y naturista en beneficio de la perdida de salud de mi nombrada hija. El profesor Narváez Zuluaga procedió desde el primer día a examinar la menor paciente, ya que a acudimos ante este señor en vista de que con anterioridad y por espacio de dos meses mas o menos nuestra hija había sido tratada científicamente por médicos graduados de esta localidad, tales como los doctores: Henao Mejía, Juan A Bonilla T, Aniceto Guzmán, Carlos Borrero Sinisterra, Alfonso Cárdenas Cárdenas, como otros internos al servicio del Hospital de caridad de esta ciudad de Cali, profesionales estos quienes no pudieron combatir la enfermedad de mi hija Fabiola y por tanto la abandonaron por considerar inútil seguir el tratamiento, ya que consideraban que la enfermedad de mi citada hija era un caso perdido”.
Al 3° - Dijo: “es verdad y lo afirmo bajo gravedad del juramento que ha prestado, que en vista de la incapacidad de los médicos graduados y científicos para mejorar a mi mentada hija de la enfermedad a cuyo tratamiento fue sometida por espacio de dos meses en forma consecutiva y como lo expuse al principio de la presente, acudí donde el profesor Narváez Zuluaga en solicitud de sus conocimientos, quien una vez que la paciente salió de la jurisdicción y tratamiento de los médicos, el señor Narváez Zuluaga con sus conocimientos científicos y botánicos en un lapso comprendido del 14 de enero a la fecha, ha logrado restablecer casi perfectamente a mi citada hija Fabiola Olarte Ospina, hecho éste que ha causado mucho asombro ante los familiares nuestros y ante las amistades y personas quienes se dieron cuenta de la enfermedad y tratamientos hechos por los profesionales graduados a que he hecho referencia en esta declaración. Debo dejar constancia de la gentileza y consideración del profesor Narváez Zuluaga para con la declarante y su hija, como por la eficacia y verdadero bien que con sus conocimientos esta presentando a la humanidad sin distinción de clases, méritos que le hace honor y que se deben reconocer en casos como el que dejo relatado en esta declaración”.
Al 4°- expreso: “Es verdad y lo afirmo como lo dije al principio, que mi precitada hija Fabiola Olarte Ospina, permaneció casi dos meses en el Hospital de San Juan de Dios de Cali, en donde estuvo permanente mente postrada sin esperanzas de salvarle la vida, no obstante los permanentes tratamientos dispensados en dicha casa de salud por los médicos al servicio de la misma. Ahora, para acreditar la veracidad de los que dejo declarado, aquí tengo para exhibirlas las fórmulas de los facultativos graduados quienes atendieron a mi mentada hija durante la enfermedad sin lograr alentarla o siquiera aliviarla en algo de los padecimientos que sufrió. ( la declarante exhibe once fórmulas firmadas por facultativos), pues estos médicos me expresaban más o menos lo siguiente: “ No vote plata (dinero) en la niña, ella se le muere por ser un caso perdido y hasta decían que estaba tuberculosa, según me lo dijeron los doctores Cárdenas Cárdenas y Bonilla Torres". Quiero para corroborar más lo que dejo declarado, que se agregue la fotografía para mejor identidad de mi hija Fabiola quien igualmente podrá acreditar los hechos relatados que es verdad”.
Agotado el interrogatorio, la declarante personalmente leyó su declaración, se afirmo y ratificó y en constancia firma después del señor Juez por ante el secretario.

Durante más de 25 años el profesor Narváez, tuvo innumerables ofertas de asociación con profesionales de la medicina; tales como: médicos cirujanos, homeópatas, químicos farmaceutas y otros como botánicos empíricos que incursionaban en la medicina alternativa de ése entonces, pero el profesor siempre desestimó tales propuestas pues ya tenia fijado su rumbo como médico Naturópata y su fe en el sistema curativo naturista que el ideó.

He seguido paso a paso su trayectoria de estudio y de aciertos y lo felicito sinceramente por los buenos éxitos obtenidos. En cuento a la persecución de que ha sido y es, víctima, no se afane de a mucho, que quienes como yo hemos sido víctimas también de la persecución y de la envidia de ciertos profesionales fracasados, sabemos muy bien que en la lucha está la victoria para hombres fuertes.

Bien mí estimado amigo: Yo estoy por acá ejerciendo desde hace un año que vine de Alcalde, cargo que con la caída del auténtico liberalismo, hube de entregar. Pero ahora deseo volverme para Cali, pues esa tierra ha sido mi plaza siempre, como Usted lo sabe. Y puesto que deseo regresar a esa quiero hacerle una propuesta que le ruego estudiarla a la mayor brevedad posible y avisarme inmediatamente lo resuelva, pero en el breve plazo de cinco o seis días, ya que quiero saber su respuesta a la mayor brevedad posible. La propuesta es ésta: Pongamos un consultorio en compañía. Usted con su botánica y yo con mi homeopatía. Como Usted bien sabe yo tengo mis credenciales como medico homeópata al día y puedo ejercer en todo Colombia y aún fuera de él, puesto que yo estuve en México en la Escuela Nacional de medicina y de allá traje mi cartón de estudios autenticados por el ministro de Colombia, don Jorge Zawadzky. Además sacamos a “FIAT LUX” en compañía como órgano científico y de defensa personal y profesional, con la advertencia de que no me interesan en ninguna forma la las bravatas de los colegas alópatas por que ellos bien saben con quién se meten! El consultorio podríamos dejarlo allí en el mismo local que usted tiene, o buscamos otro local más amplio, pues convendría que tuviera sala, un apartamento para usted, otro para mí y servicios sanitarios completos. En caso de encontrar una buena casa, sería maravilloso.

Espero pues pronta respuesta para movilizarme para ésa; el arrendamiento lo pagamos en compañía, así como la propaganda, luz, agua, y servicios de empleado. Recuerde que en la “unión esta la fuerza” y los dos unidos podemos laborar muy acertadamente.

Honor al Mérito Armenia 1943

El profesor Conrado Narváez Zuluaga durante los tres años de permanencia en Armenia desde 1941 al 1943, recorrió las regiones del Quindío, corregimientos de la época, entre otros de Salento, Filandia, Pijáo, Montenegro, Génova, Circasia, la Tebaida. Cartago y Quimbaya (hoy municipios del departamento del Quindío). Recibió 2 diplomas en pergamino. El primero dado en gratitud "Honor al Mérito" por 30 pacientes de la comunidad de Armenia, quienes habían recibido sus beneficios médicos con su método Naturista.

Descripción del diploma: Se desconoce el autor del dibujo elaborado en pergamino 69x58: Un coloso y robusto hombre con su dorso semidesnudo, que empuña en su mano izquierda una espada; y en su mano derecha; una vasija con fuego, a la altura de los pies se aprecia un cráneo humano, en un círculo sobre el que surgen franjas de color rojo y amarillo que se extienden geométricamente como fondo, acompañado en su inicio de una vegetación tipo hiedra enredadera, en el centro del pergamino en letras góticas en dorado, la frase “Honor Al Mérito”, el cual se acompaña con dos cintas entrecruzadas de terciopelo rojo una medalla de oro circular con inscripción desconocida (la medalla de Oro que fue sustraída del diploma, robo efectuado a comienzo de los 80) en el centro, se lee el texto en tinta china; “Al Eminente Naturista Profesor Conrado Narváez Zuluaga Como homenaje espontáneo por su infatigable lucha, su intrépida labor y sus profundos conocimientos científicos. Los que hemos recibido sus beneficios médicos, dejamos constancia de nuestra eterna gratitud. Armenia Julio de 1943” y en la parte inferior las 30 firmas con nombre y apellido. El pergamino fue afectado por un hongo, se le practicó una restauración no del todo exitosa dejando un tinte en blanco a la vista.

Simbología: De fondo se aprecian rayos de luz como un sol, en tono amarillo y rojo, fuerza astral y natural sobre cualquier ser en este mundo. El hombre; la nobleza del ser humano como un coloso rico en salud con acciones virtuosas y honradas haciendo frente a su enemigo la enfermedad hasta el último momento y confiado en su propia fortaleza humana, con el dorso desnudo, denuedo de ánimo con su manto rojo denota fidelidad principalmente a socorrer a los que se ven azotados por sus padecimientos físicos. La espada; pieza que se concedía a los caballeros para afrontar la lucha. El fuego; símbolo de magnanimidad, ardimiento y prontitud en desempeños o cometidos intelectuales y científicos. La hiedra; como vínculo de amor al triunfo, La Muerte; representada en un cráneo a los pies del hombre, símbolo de valor, superioridad a la victoria sobre la muerte con hidalguía. La cinta de terciopelo en forma de aspa y una medalla de oro; el estandarte o guión del caballero como tributo en oro al honor y al mérito reconocido. CONRADO NARVÁEZ ZULUAGA, mayor de edad, vecino de Cali, portador de la cédula de ciudadanía número 1292596, expedido en Ipiales (Nariño), a Ud. Atentamente solicito se sirve hacer comparecer ante su despacho al señor JULIO E. LABRADA, de las mismas mayoría y vecindad, para que, juramento en legal forma, rinda declaración al tenor del siguiente interrogante.
Primero:- Diga su edad, vecindad y generales de ley con el preguntante.
Segundo:- Diga si es verdad y le consta por propia y directa percepción, que desde hace aproximadamente tres (3) años, su esposa, Señora Marina Perlaza de Labrada, venia padeciendo muy serios quebrantos de salud, que la obligaron a someterse a tratamiento médico permanente, sin que, no obstante el interés nobilísimo demostrado por los distinguidos facultativos que la trataron, se hubiera demostrado mejoría alguna en su dolencia.
Tercero:- Diga el contestante de igual manera, si es verdad y le consta por percepción propia y directa, que en vista del efecto negativo de los tratamientos por ellos aplicados a la enferma, los facultativos prescindieron de las aplicaciones clínicas y optaron por la vía quirúrgica, y que, consecuencialmente practicaron a la esposa del ponente. Señora PERLAZA DE LABRADA,
Sin resultado beneficio alguno, dos intervenciones de cirugía.
Cuarto:- Diga también el deponente si es cierto que ante tales sucesivos fracasos, los aludidos facultativos intentaron una tercera intervención de cirugía, que no se llevó a efecto en vista del sumo estado de debilidad de la paciente.
Quinta:- Diga también el preguntado, cómo es cierto y le consta, que últimamente, durante un espacio de diez y ocho (18) días, la enferma siguió siendo atendida por seis (6) profesionales médicos que ejercen en esta ciudad de Cali, sin que ninguno de ellos lograra obtener la más simple mejoría en la salud de la enferma; y que es también muy cierto que las fórmulas que se le ponen de presente, son las mismas que suscribieron los médicos a que alude esta pregunta.
Sexto:- y diga también el deponente, en mérito de la verdad, que encontrándose ya su esposa, señora MARINA PERLAZA DE LABRADA en trance aparentemente agónico, acudió en busca del Profesor Botánico – naturista, Conrado Narváez Zuluaga, quien merced a sus agradecidos tratamientos, curó radicalmente a la paciente, restableciéndola, plena de energías a sus habituales labores.
Al solicitar que, a mi costa, sean entregadas a mi persona las anteriores declaraciones, pidiéndole de igual manera certificar sobre la honorabilidad del deponente y renunciando de antemano a cualquier auto favorables, soy del señor Juez, atentamente, - Enmendado: MARINA: vale.

El señor Julio E Labrada compareció al despacho del Juagado 2º Civil Municipal de Cali, hoy seis de febrero de mil novecientos cuarenta y siete, con el fin de rendir el testamento que de él se solicita en este asunto. Juramento en la forma legal por él señor Juez, por ante su secretario, prometió bajo esta gravedad, decir verdad, toda la verdad y nada más que la verdad en la declaración que va a rendir. Impuesto del interrogatorio, dijo.

Al Punto Primero Dijo:- “Mi nombre es como queda escrito, de 42 años de edad, de este vecindario, portador de la cédula de ciudanía No 7221226 de Cali y sin generales de la ley con mi preguntante”.
Al Punto Segundo Dijo:- “Es verdad y me consta de manera directa y personal por haberlo visto, que desde hace aproximadamente tres años (3) mi esposa, señora Marina Perlaza de labrada, venia sufriendo quebrantos de salud al extremo de verse sometida a un tratamiento médico en forma continua, no obstante los esfuerzos de mostrados por los facultativos que la atendieron y trataron en esta ciudad, hubiera tenido alguna mejoría en su enfermedad.”
Al Punto Tercero Dijo:- “Igualmente es verdad y me consta personalmente que, como esposo de Marina Perlaza en vista de los ningunos resultados favorables para obtener un mejoramiento de sus graves quebrantos de salud y de acuerdo con el diagnóstico de los facultativos quienes la atendieron, determinamos optar por el tratamiento quirúrgico y como consecuencia de esto fue sometida mi citada esposa a dos intervenciones de cirugía, como también sin resultado positivos.”
Al Punto Cuarto Dijo:- “Es igualmente cierto que en vista del mal estado de salud que continuaba mi citada esposa no obtente los tratamientos a que me he referido en los puntos anteriores y como los facultativos que la atendieron intentaron una tercera intervención de cirugía, esta no fue posible tanto por el fracaso de las anteriores como por el grave estado de debilidad de la paciente a consecuencia de las anteriores operaciones quirúrgicas”.
Al Punto Quinto Dijo:- “ Es verdad y me consta de manera personal y directa que en vista de la delicada salud de mi esposa decidí últimamente durante un lapso de 18 días se siguiera siendo atendida por los facultativos a fin de obtener alguna mejoría y al efecto fue atendida por seis profesionales médicos quienes ejercen en esta ciudad de Cali, pero ninguno de dichos profesionales obtuvo un resultado favorable a favor de la paciente y para acreditar las atenciones médicas a que hago referencia en el cuerpo de esta declaración, tengo a la vista en este juzgado la formula que se me pone de presente (se le puso de presente al declarante seis formulas acompañadas al memorial petitorio), fórmulas éstas que son las mismas que aparecen suscritas por los médicos que atendieron a mi citada esposa durante el largo lapso de su padecimiento”.
Al Punto Sexto Dijo:- “Es verdad y lo afirmo bajo la gravedad del juramento presentado, que en vista de la gravedad de mi señora Marina Perlaza de Labrada al extremo de presentar síntomas de estado pre agónico acudí en busca del Profesor Botánico Naturista, Señor Conrado Narváez Zuluaga, residente en esta ciudad de Cali, quien procedió a iniciar los tratamientos a mi citada esposa de sus padecimientos que con antelación venia sufriendo y que los médicos facultativos no tuvieron resultado alguno favorable, sino que el citado Botánico señor Narváez Zuluaga, fue quien con su tratamiento de especialista en la Botánica, curó radicalmente a la referida enferma, restableciéndola a nueva vida y quién hoy goza de energía y se encuentra dedicada a sus habituales labores de esposa y de mujer de hogar. Lo dicho es la verdad”.
Leída esta declaración por el mismo declarante, la encontró conforme con su dicho y manifestó no tener nada más que agregar, ni enmendar, ni quitar, por lo que la aprueba y firma con el señor Juez por ante mi el secretario.

"Este Memorial fue presentado como prueba en declaraciones extrajudiciales en el proceso que con falsas acusaciones emitía la federación médica colombiana y el consejo nacional de prácticas profesionales, junta de títulos médicos en los años 50 contra el Bromatólogo Vitalista. Conrado Narváez Zuluaga, Quien enseña a vivir de acuerdo con las leyes de la naturaleza y cuya teoría y obra científica titulada “Superación Física y Mental. Profesor Narváez. Régimen alimenticio en armonía con las leyes estrictamente naturales”. La legislación médica colombiana no reconocía la medicina naturista. Al no haber legislación y carecer de leyes que regularan el ejercicio de la medicinas alternativas".

Encuentro de los Hermanos Narváez con el Maestro Omar Rayo, Roldanillo Valle Colombia

A continuación les introducimos en lo que fue el inicio de la propuesta de donación y homenaje al Profesor Narváez, refiriéndonos a un resumen de los escritos dirigidos al Museo Rayo y respuesta del maestro. Barcelona 22/04/2006

Distinguido Maestro:
Permítame desde aquí alabar la labor que realiza el Museo Rayo por la cultura. Creo que es digno de los mayores elogios el haber conseguido tras sus 26 años interesar al público no solo de Colombia sino del mundo por algo tan noble como es el dibujo y los grabados latinoamericanos, con un museo tan especial en un municipio de provincia como la nuestra.

Como le comenté en charla telefónica a vuestro director Sr. Juan José Madrid Rojas, soy hijo de Conrado Narváez Zuluaga, pionero de la medicina Naturópata de Colombia conocido con el nombre “Profesor Narváez” y quien en los años 50 mantuvo una amistad con vuestra persona, amistad que fue muy presente en nuestro hogar ya que diariamente pudimos admirar durante nuestra infancia los 3 cuadros que el maestro realizó “El Quijote” “Bernard Shaw” y el “Profesor Narváez”. En la actualidad los cuadros están: “El Quijote” sé haya en Villa de Leiva, “Bernard Shaw” en Estocolmo y el “Profesor Narváez” en Barcelona, los cuadros El Quijote y el Profesor Narváez fueron comprados por nuestro padre pero George Bernard Shaw, dramaturgo irlandés que murió en 1950 fue obsequiado a nuestro padre y lleva una dedicatoria en su izquierda.

El cuadro “Profesor Narváez” que se halla bajo mi tutela, de común acuerdo sin ánimo de lucro con los demás hermanos Narváez herederos del cuadro, hemos tomado la determinación de la donación del mismo, de este modo homenajear el centenario 1906-2006 del Profesor Narváez, consideramos que el sitio de esta obra de autoría del maestro Omar Rayo, período Bejuquismo 1950 debe enriquecer la labor y el interés digno de encomio que lleva acabo la fundación Museo Rayo.

Le agradezco, en nombre de los hermanos Narváez, que la fundación Museo Rayo ponga en marcha los trámites legales jurídicos qué enmarcan esta donación, ruego me informen de los mismos.

Yo le confirmaré por mail las fechas de mi viaje a Colombia y de los hermanos que puedan de igual forma viajar, coordinar la fecha adecuada para la entrega del cuadro, el 23 de agosto del presente celebraremos el centenario y podría ser en torno a esta fecha.

En recordatorio a nuestro padre Conrado Narváez Zuluaga y vuestra amistad esta antiguas consignas o máximas inherentes dicho Vikingo “Hávamál” llamados poemas de Edda, sabiduría nórdica de hace más de 1000 años. Gratitud.

Distinguido Señor Narváez:
Recibí su carta remitida desde Barcelona y fue muy grato recordar al queridísimo “Profesor Narváez”, persona a quien admiré bastante porque, igual que yo en ese entonces, centraba su interés en las raíces vivas de nuestra patria.

Recuerdo cuando elaboré su retrato de la serie Bejuquismo, el que enriqueció nuestra amistad, y al conocer en estas fechas el interés de Ustedes de donarla a la colección del Museo Rayo me llenó de mucha alegría. Al recibir sus noticias sobre la conmemoración del Centenario de su Nacimiento, me permito felicitarlo por mantener viva la memoria de tan destacado personaje.

Para la donación de la obra, me permito informarle que yo, personalmente, estaré en agosto recibiéndoles y entregándoles el respectivo certificado que la Fundación Museo Rayo expide en este tipo de trámite. Quedamos pendientes de sus noticias para definir la fecha exacta de su visita al Museo Rayo.

Encuentro con el Maestro Omar Rayo y los hermanos Narvaez Slide Show

Entrega del Cuadro periodo Bejuquismo 1950, silueta “Profesor Narváez” donado a la fundación Museo Rayo Roldanillo Valle Colombia

Una de las labores medicas naturista del Profesor Narváez fue su dedicación a la niñez y la desnutrición infantil que hoy en día todavía impera en muchas regiones colombianas y persisten problemas estructurales críticos para el cumplimiento de los derechos del niño, consecuencia de la crisis que vive el país y que agrava la situación de los más vulnerables, particularmente de la niñez. Ya en 1946 el profesor Narváez alertaba de esta situación en varios artículos publicados en el Relator y El País de Cali Valle. El profesor Narváez elaboró y presentó un caso clínico infantil, el cual denomino en beneficio de la raza “El Enfermito” niño que fue tratado por tres alópatas especialistas en pediatría durante dos meses sin resultados satisfactorios. Mas tarde desahuciado en junta médicos del hospital infantil (Club Noel) de la ciudad de Cali. Después de este proceso negativo, lo presentaron a los estudios botánicos del Naturópata, Profesor Narváez, quien actuó con resultados positivos. Caso Clínico Infantil "El Enfermito" que presento en el Congreso Mundial de Medicina Naturopática reunido en la ciudad de Nueva York en 1947 “At the Golden Jubilee Convention of the American Naturopathic Association, held in New York City in 1947” El presidente del Congreso de Medicina Naturopática, doctor Josse Mercer Gehman, tuvo palabras de cálido elogio para el delegado Colombiano Profesor Narváez y al referirse a su obra dijo: “La vida y obra científica del Profesor Narváez, es un ejemplo de cuanto puede la vocación en su afán de superación, hasta escalar los dominios de la ciencia”.

Sus hijos, los hermanos Narváez: Conrado, Hugo, Henry, Cesar, Fernando, Arturo, Tulio, Alberto, Jairo y María del Socorro. Como homenaje a la labor de un verdadero humanista desprendido de todo cuanto le rodeaba en conocimiento y con la dedicación a la niñez decidimos que fuesen las nietas y bisnietas quienes entregaran el cuadro al maestro Omar Rayo presidente de la fundación Rayo.

Acto de homenaje a la memoria de Conrado Narváez Zuluaga “Profesor Narváez” Museo Rayo Roldanillo Valle Colombia

El programa del día 26 de agosto de 2006 y según lo previsto, comenzó con lo que se le llamó un “conversatorio familiar” en una de las salas de exposición del museo Rayo. La sala se lleno de familiares, amigos, la junta directiva de la fundación Rayo, personal del museo, y vecinos de Roldanillo. Se coordinó un panel compuesto por El maestro Omar Rayo, su esposa la poeta Águeda Pizarro, Conrado Narváez Soto, Gustavo Jiménez Narváez y Jairo Narváez; se pasó a una disertación oral en donde los diferentes miembros del podio narraron episodios vividos en vida de Conrado Narváez Zuluaga “Profesor Narváez” después de una corta introducción de bienvenida por el director del museo Sr. Juan José Madrid.

La primera disertación fue la Conrado, hijo mayor del profesor Narváez. Buenas tardes, les doy la bienvenida a este acto especial que nos congrega a todos los que nos une en diferentes grados el apellido Narváez , así como a todos sus amigos , conocidos y aun a quienes oyeron hablar alguna vez del profesor Narváez, de común acuerdo sus hijos hemos querido dejar un testimonio para conmemorar los cien años de su natalicio y qué mejor ofrenda que la de hacer una donación a la Fundación Museo Rayo de uno de nuestros mas valiosos tesoros, heredados de nuestro padre, cual es la silueta del profesor en su medio natural y porque no decirlo orgánico - vegetal , pintada por el maestro Rayo , hace ya 56 años en Bogotá. Nuevamente y en nombre de todos mis hermanos, les agradecemos de todo corazón el que hayan aceptado venir a acompañarnos en este sentido homenaje a la memoria del natalicio de quien en vida se llamó Conrado Narváez Zuluaga.

La segunda disertación fue la de la sobrina del profesor Narváez. Gabriela Valencia Narváez.

La tercera disertación fue la de un sobrino del profesor Narváez. Gustavo Jiménez Narváez. Agrónomo. Director de la Oficina del Egresado, Facultad de Ciencias Agropecuarias, Universidad Nacional de Colombia, con sede en Medellín.

La cuarta disertación fue la de Jairo, hijo menor del profesor Narváez. Un pasado en presente. Las palabras fueron dirigidas en el contexto de la comunicación. Diseñamos dos Web / blog, uno del Profesor Narváez, su biografía en orden cronológico desde 1937 y la siguiente, “Superación Física y Mental” métodos curativos, los dos cuentan en la actualidad con dominio propio y siguiendo el protocolo oficial de Internet Con: IP (Internet Protocolo). Las bitácoras del “Profesor Narváez” no solo cuentan su vida, sino también los episodios de quienes recuperaron la salud con su tratamiento; que no solo unos cuantos lo saben, sino que es por este medio web-blog el cual lo podremos dar a conocer. Es herencia de todos y un legado para todos, legado que dejó en pro de la Medicina Naturopática en Colombia, siendo benefactor de la naturaleza humana y es a nuestros hijos, las futuras generaciones de la familia Narváez, que con el tiempo lo irán enriqueciendo como él hizo, con ese realismo mágico al naturalismo, ese toque particular, que le dio el profesor Narváez, con la simpleza que le caracterizó y a la vez el humanismo que difundió a sus pacientes en tierras Colombianas.

La quinta disertación fue la de maestro Omar Rayo: Conocí al profesor Narváez una tarde a comienzos del año de 1950, en el Café Automático del centro del Bogotá de ese entonces; famoso por sus tertulias, pues allí solían acudir intelectuales, políticos, artistas y personalidades de la época: me paseaba en medio de los contertulios y les dibujaba caricaturas, siluetas o bosquejos, en una de mis primeras técnicas en pintura: Bejuquismo y Maderismo. En ése, entonces yo era un joven de apenas 22 años y sufría de acné juvenil; el profesor se dirigió a mí y me invitó a visitarlo en su consultorio a pocas cuadras del café. Posteriormente fui allí y ya en calidad de paciente para consultarle mi problema de salud; Tuvimos una agradable charla y me recetó una dieta natural y muy equilibrada acompañada de zumos de plantas que paulatinamente mejoró mi rostro; esto me hizo hacerme vegetariano por un tiempo, tanto así que participé como socio fundador del Club Científico Social Vegetariano, fundado a fines de ese mismo año 1950; como agradecimiento a su tratamiento y a la amistad que surgió, le obsequie un retrato, de George Bernard Shaw con dedicatoria (dramaturgo y periodista Irlandés que falleció ese mismo año) Cita: “Muy Cordialmente Para el Profesor Narváez Bogotá Noviembre 15 de 1950 OMAR RAYO” Período Maderismo. Luego dibujé la silueta “profesor Narváez” periodo Bejuquismo, que hoy recibe en donación la fundación Rayo, de manos de sus hijos.

Se pasó a las charlas y preguntas con los asistentes al Conversatorio, en la que intervinieron el Dr. Álvaro Obregón Correa, Vicepresidente de la Fundación Rayo, y quien alabó la obra Científica Naturista del Profesor Narváez. Agradeciendo la donación producto de una educación humanista. La educadora preescolar Nora Stella Lara Narváez, destacó la importancia educativa para las futuras generaciones en un acto como el de los hermanos Narváez.
Nota: Como recordatorio se realizó en la ciudad de Barcelona Catalunya, 10 reproducciones a escala para los hermanos Narváez del cuadro “profesor Narváez período Bejuquismo” (del hermano Hugo Narváez Soto, fallecido 1996, sin herederos. Se le entregó el lienzo a la tía Aurora Margarita Narváez de Valencia, única sobreviviente, hermana menor del profesor Narváez) y 45 de la misma, en tamaño de 13x18 que fue repartido a los asistentes al acto.

En los recordatorios se cita la siguiente frase: Profesor Narváez. Acuarela y lápiz de color-papel. Obra de Autoría de Omar Rayo, período Bejuquismo 1950. Donado al Museo Rayo por los Hermanos Narváez, en la celebración del centenario de Conrado Narváez Zuluaga (1906 – 2006) Pionero de la Medicina Naturista en Colombia, copia del original impresión digital en tinta sobre Lienzo. Barcelona 23 de agosto de 2006; muchos de los asistentes se acercaron con los recordatorios terminado el conversatorio y luego el maestro Rayo cordialmente les firmó los mismos.

Charla con el Maestro Omar Rayo y la Poeta Águeda Pizarro

Terminado el Conversatorio posterior a la entrega del cuadro “Profesor Narváez”, periodo Bejuquismo 1950 a la fundación Rayo. Se pasó dentro de las instalaciones del museo, al corredor exterior en dirección al auditorio, Teatro al aire Libre y se improvisó una discusión en diversos temas: Jairo Narváez, como Gestor Comunitario, les hice una presentación de mi trabajo dentro del marco comunitario relaciones bilaterales entre regiones y ciudades de la comunidad Europea. Cómo es tu trabajo preguntó la señora Pizarro? Mi labor de trabajo en perspectiva y como ejemplo; Proyectos Europeos, que coordino entre la ciudad de Barcelona España, con otras comunidades en Escandinavia, convenios de hermanamientos y acercamientos de ciudades, realización de proyectos de integración social de los pueblos europeos.
Otro tema tratado, fue Internet.
Presenté los dos Blogs del “Profesor Narváez” Conrado Narváez Zuluaga, el cual durante mi disertación oral en la sala de exposiciones, había presentado, el primero: dedicado a su vida biográfica en bitácoras, en orden cronológico desde 1943, el segundo: sobre los métodos naturistas de cura denominados: Superación Física y Mental http://superacionfisicaymental.blogspot.com/ método curativo sin drogas y operaciones. Registrada en Obras Científicas del Ministerio de Gobierno de Bogotá Colombia. Numero 249, libros 2 ° tomo 8° del 13 de octubre de 1965 como propiedad intelectual de Conrado Narváez Zuluaga.
Informe del ranking de entradas de visitas al blog Sitemeter, herramienta útil para establecer criterios de valoración y de búsqueda, como son Google, Yahoo Search, AltaVista, Orange, Microsoft Live Search, estadísticas de búsqueda presentadas y al cual el maestro dedicó gran atención.
